Every job has a big role to play, no matter what type and kind it is. And being a security guard plays a bigger part with its huge responsibility in securing and protecting a person, place or thing. Its job description, at its general role, is a paid professional assigned to protect a person, place or thing.

Although protection is considered it’s very role, its function and duties does not end there. Some of its extended duties are the following:

  • Patrols day and night on foot or wheels
  • Checks for violation on rules, e.g. building rules
  • Observe suspicious activities than can might cause any harm and hazards
  • Report any suspicious activities to the authorities
  • Checks for any malfunctions and irregularities in a building or equipment, submit report to be fixed
  • Escort or assists people or thing to its destination
  • Responds to any call of danger, alarms and calls
  • Inspects a person or thing entering and leaving into its secured premises
  • Record events and report it when necessary

 

Difference between police officer and security officer

Some find a police officer the same as a security officer, but it is not. Their duties have a great difference. Security officers practice the methodology of detecting, deterring, observing, and reporting any unwanted incidents that may take and is taken place. The role police officers also do. However, police officers and other law enforcement officers has the right to make a citizen’s arrest; one huge authority that security that security guards does not hold.

 

Before a person can serve as a security guard, there are necessary things he/she needs to accomplish. A security training program, state-exam and certification are just of its requirements. You cannot serve as a security if you don’t have the enough skills and knowledge to perform the job. Thus, it is only fair enough for the aspirant to submit themselves into training programs.

Being a security guard comes with a huge and crucial responsibility. Some people say that if you want to be a security officer, you should be a police officer instead. This is because many didn’t realize the brighter side of being a security officer. Some people find it not the dream job, but others find it very fulfilling.
